I was born in the southern part of Osaka City and grew up in Ashiya from as early as I can remember. The days I spent playing freely in Ashiya’s mountains and by the sea remain vividly etched in my heart as my earliest “inner landscape.” When I was little, my parents worried about me because I would often sit in the middle of the bus road in front of our house, eagerly drawing pictures with chalk alongside the neighborhood kids. Looking back now, their decision to send me to a nearby art class—thinking that if I loved drawing that much, I should learn properly—may well have been the moment I took my very first step into the world of painting.
I still clearly remember the excitement I felt when I painted in oils for the first time as a high school student. After graduating from university, I began my career as a teacher, while continuing to create art quietly on the side. For a while my motifs lacked consistency and changed frequently, but over time I gradually settled into “inner landscapes”—scenes of forests, trees, light, and nature infused with a touch of fantasy. Along with this shift, my medium changed from oil paint to acrylics and colored pencils. This way of expression feels like the right fit for me now.
