イリデッセントカラー絵具を試してみた I Tried Iridescent Color Paint
透明感のある美しい輝き 色が変わる不思議な魅力
以前から気になっていたホルベイン画材のイリデッセントカラー絵具（クロマパール：緑）を使って小さな試作品を作ってみた。
イリデッセントカラーは硼珪酸ガラスの粒子が混ざった顔料をベースとする干渉色で乾燥後はキラキラと輝き、まるでホログラフィーのように角度によって見える色が変化する特色があるとのこと。メーカーの説明書によれば、暗い色の上に塗れば、よく輝くらしい。
今回、試作した手順は以下の通り。
① キャンバスの上にジェッソ（白）を塗る（１層目）
② ①の乾燥後、アクリル絵の具（黒）を塗る（両端部分 ２層目）
③ ②の乾燥後、イリデッセントカラー（クロマパール：緑）を塗る（両端部分 ３層目）
写真でお分かりいただけるかと思うが、上から見た時と下から見た時を見比べると緑に見えたり、青に見えたりする不思議な魅力持つ絵具である。
どんな使い方ができるのか？ どのように使えば、おもしろい作品ができるのか？
表現の幅を広げてくれそうな期待を抱かせる絵具である。
I Tried Iridescent Color Paint
A Beautiful, Translucent Shine — The Mysterious Charm of Changing Colors
I recently made a small experimental piece using an iridescent color paint from Holbein Art Materials
that had long caught my attention: Iridescent Color (Chroma Pearl: Green).
Iridescent colors are interference pigments based on particles of borosilicate glass. After drying, they shimmer brilliantly, and like holography, the visible color changes depending on the viewing angle. According to the manufacturer’s instructions, the effect appears most vividly when the paint is applied over a dark color.
The procedure for this small test piece was as follows:
- Apply gesso (white) to the canvas (first layer).
- After it dries, apply acrylic paint (black) to both sides (second layer).
- After that layer dries, apply the iridescent color (Chroma Pearl: Green) to the same areas (third layer).
As you may be able to see in 3 photographs below, when the piece is viewed from above and then from below, the color appears to shift—sometimes green, sometimes blue—revealing the mysterious charm of this paint.
What kinds of expressions might be possible with it?
How might it be used to create intriguing works of art?
It is a paint that inspires the expectation that it could greatly expand the possibilities of artistic expression.
